
Perimenopause is not simply a reproductive transition. It is a neuroendocrine phase marked by fluctuating oestrogen and declining progesterone that directly affects the brain, nervous system, stress response, sleep, mood, cognition, and recovery capacity.
At the same time, many women in perimenopause present symptoms that closely resemble burnout.
As a result, perimenopause is frequently missed, minimised, or misattributed, while burnout is treated in isolation — often with poorer outcomes.
This creates a blind spot in burnout care, particularly for women aged 35–55.
